Colts' Special Team vs Patriots' Special Teams
The Colts are rapidly
becoming one of the elite special teams in the NFL. Punter Hunter Smith is leading the NFL
in net yardage, Mike Vanderjagt has made 38 of his last 40 field goal attempts, including
the 45 yard game winner versus Buffalo last week. In addition, the coverage teams have
shown better discipline and have not had a run back of any note against them since week
two.
Compared with the
Patriots specials teams that feature Kicker Adam Vinatieri and veteran Punter Lee Johnson,
there is no contest. Vinatieri has missed 4 field goals this season alone (6/10) as well
as an extra point. And Johnson, while consistent, lacks the leg to boom kicks the way he
once did.
As they proved last
week, the special teams can often determine the outcome in a clsoe game. If the Patriots
game end up tigh in the end, look for the advantage to sway in our favor.
