Colts' Offense vs Packers' Defense

The Colts may have hit on a key to future success versus the Jets last Sunday night and it can be summed up in two words: no huddle. Each of the Colts drives that used the no huddle ended with a score. The drives that were run with a huddle resulted in 2 punts and a turnover. It should come as no surprise that the Colts would take advantage of  QB Peyton Manning's  on-field savvy by allowing him to dictate the pace of the game. The only surprise is that the Colts haven't gone to the no huddle more often! The offense seems very dependent on rhythm, only sputtering after delays due to injury or penalty. The no huddle gives Manning the ability to keep the defense on its heels. Manning has become very adept at reading defenses and finding mismatches. Forcing the defense to play without as many substitutions creates more opportunities to exploit those breakdowns.

The Packers' defense was riddled with injuries last week. Linebackers Na'ill Diggs and cornerback Mike Mackenzie will not play this Sunday. Also, stalwart run stopper Vonnie Holliday is out. Diggs has covered tight ends well this season, so Colt tight ends may be able to shake free more easily this week. Though the Pack defense is ranked 11th overall in the NFL, with the mounting injuries, the Packers will face an uphill battle against the Colts.

Especially if the weather is a factor, look for Edgerrin James to be active early and often. James continues to impress week after week, racking up 100 yard games and running over defenses in the fourth quarter. The only area where he could stand to improve is receiving. James had two drops that would have sustained drives in the second half. If the Colts can establish balance in their attack as they did last week, the Packers will be not be able to cover all the weapons the Colts have at their disposal.
