Football is a game of simple grace and power, grit and glory unleashed in small explosions. It's poetry in motion. Fast forward, that is. The 'Shoe doesn't need pages of stat-crunching analysis to find the essence of the game. 17 weeks. 17 syllables. That's all we need.  Beat that, ESPN.

First quarter, fourth down.
Kick early, go for it late.
The unwritten rule.

Like a pendulum,
his right foot swings through the ball.
Vandy walks the walk.

Giant green chess board.
Consummate field general,
Manning moves his pawns.

Run, pass, tackle, kick.
Colts seek balance in all things.
Fans have new chant: Om....

Eight down, eight to go.
No time to rest on laurels.
Playoff push begins now.

True test for good teams:
Consistency regardless
down, distance, foe.

Colts' new recipe:
Two slices Bratzke, Freeney
makes Leftwich sandwich.
