Colts Defense vs. Redskins Offense

The defense must stop the run. The Redskins are a dangerous offense when they have the ball. The defense must stay in its lanes and give RB Stephen Davis no room to break loose. This will be the strongest test thus far for the Colt linebackers. If the Colts can stop the run, then the Colts must get pressure on Brad Johnson quickly in the transition on play action.

Battles to watch are Chad Bratzke and Ellis Johnson. If the right side of the line can hold their own, then Larry Chester and Bernard Whittington will have chances for big plays. Also critical is the play of Middle Linbacker Michael Barber and rookie Outside Linebacker Mike Peterson. They must fill the running lanes and not get caught out of position or the Skins will make the Colts pay dearly. Also, much maligned Cornerback Jeff Burris will prove in this game if he has what it takes to play cover corner. The Colts will be unable to help Burris in the deep zone without giving the Skins an advantage in the running game that the Colts can ill afford.
