Colts Special Teams vs Titans Special Teams

The football cliche is that special teams will often win or lose the game for a team. A critical mistake or opportunity on a kickoff, punt or field goal can shift the momentum of a game.

Indeed! The Titans emerged victorious after a lateral pass from TE Frank Wycheck was caught by Kevin Dyson and ran back for a touchdown as time expired. The Titans are most assuredly still riding the high of this miraculous turn of events.

One miracle a season is enough, thank you. While neither team would turn down another one, both teams will settle for consistent, disciplined play.

The Titans P Craig Hentrich has the edge of the Colts P Hunter Smith in every statistical category. The Colts K Mike Vanderjagt led the league in scoring and has a franchise record 26 consecutive field goals coming into Sunday's game. Tennessee K, veteran Al Del Greco is no slouch either, having made 21/25 FGs, 5 from 40 yards or farther. Terrence Wilkins has scored on both kickoff and punt returns this year and averages slightly more yardage than the Titans' Derrick Mason.

Lightning may not strike twice, but special teams play is still vital in determining the course of the game.
