Fourth and Short

Very short. Welcome to the Horseshoe, the home for Colts haiku. Football is a game of simple grace and power, grit and glory unleashed in small explosions. It's poetry in motion. Fast forward, that is. The 'Shoe doesn't need pages of stat-crunching analysis to find the essence of the game.

17 weeks. 17 syllables. That's all we need.  Beat that, ESPN.

Each year the 'Shoe also predicts winners for the full slate of NFL games. Jim Conway put the 'Shoe in its place last season. This year, he returns to defend his title.

The score:  Up by one.  Horseshoe 88/144  Jim Conway 87/144    See this week's predictions

This week's game: Colts vs. Cowboys   Sunday  11/16  1:00pm  RCA Dome

Colts Haiku

Seven little days.
What a difference a week makes.
The chumps look like champs!

No first half failures.
Colts grab lead, never look back.
Now THAT'S more like it!

Was Ben Franklin right?
Are turkeys the better birds?
Eagles lay big eggs.

Positive yardage,
Keep it simple, north and south.
The Mungro Doctrine.

Blitz happy Philly
puts Peyton on the hot seat.
Manning makes them pay.

Ponies in playoffs?
The sleeper has awakened.
More than just a dream.

Marvelous Marvin,
You're Philly's favorite son.
Donovan McWho?

Dwight Freeney's first start:
Three forced fumbles and one sack.
Keep him on the field!

I welcome your submissions. They are loads of fun to write. I am using the 5-7-5 form, meaning the haiku should consist of three lines, the first line being five syllables long, the second being seven syllables, and the third five.  Submit haiku here
